[KĀNE‘OHE, HI –Windward Community College’s Theatre 260–Dramatic Production students present The Fall of the House of Usher November 21 through 24 at Palikū Theatre. Edgar Allan Poes immortal soul-shaking tale takes on a dark life of its own in this all-student production directed by internationally acclaimed theatre director Taurie Kinoshita. Adapted for the stage by visionary playwright Steven Berkoff, director Taurie Kinoshita says the students have created a production that “oozes fear in this spooky, surrealistic unfolding of a dark metaphoric tale by the Romantic genius—Poe, father of the detective genre and the herald of all American Science Fiction.” The play takes the audience on a journey into Total Theatre—music, dance, expressive movement, spectacle, poetic text and acting—revealing the dark world of Usher who, afflicted with hyperesthesia and anxiety summons his dear friend Edgar into a web of death and terror. Meanwhile, Ushers beloved sister, Madeline, is dying of an unknown physical illness and Edgars visit to the house of Usher allows him to witness strange and eerie events, which lead this dark play to its disastrous consequences. ] IN ADDITION Pacific Tongues needs a sacraficial poet for their upcoming performance at the Doris Day Theatre!
