Hi all. Its been some time since weve connected on this. I humbly apologize for the distance here. It is important to me to bring you all in and back up-to-date with a better system of communication than weve had. To start, I want to assure you that this project still rolls forward, though it has evolved quite a bit. I have learned much more as both a filmmaker and a seeker and this has shifted much of the conversation of this piece. I also want to assure you that the promised perks are still attached to this project and once completed you are still entitled to what your pledge purchased. Since the time of shooting I flew and visited editor Bill Haugse (editor of hoop dreams) and got him excited about editing this together. As Bill is a consummate editor and an Oscar nominee, he came at a price... a discounted one for sure, but a price nonetheless. His offer was to the tune of $20,000. So I thought, sure, well surmount this hurdle just as we surmounted all others. I scraped some money out of my savings and hired him to cut a trailer to shop around in order to raise more money. At this point I should also mention the project, which owes a great debt of service to its Cinematographer and Sound Operator, also owes them an agreed deferred amount. So in addition to raising his rate, they would be raised (first and foremost), as well. Bill cut this trailer together https://vimeo/54998981. And, well, I didnt like it, though admittedly some of its merits has grown on me over time, he still didnt feel like the right fit. Additionally, deep down, I had the nagging feeling that I wasnt exactly sure what we accomplished with this project and in regards to Neils life. An empty confusion set in and weighed on me. I sought to get an update from Neil, but he expressed that he did not want to disclose, which confused me further. In the meantime, I was learning about personal emotional and mental maintenance that has led to deeper sense of what journeys in life truly require of us. I look back at the journey and feel that maybe the lessons learned were more secondary than primary... and truthfully, more cautionary than perhaps inspiring. So now, I sit behind the computer editing it together myself, distilling what happened and piecing together a narrative that evolves as I evolve. Thats where we are now. I havent forgotten about you. More to come. Still operating out of treethefilm and https://facebook/treethefilm
