Hi all. Yesterday Rika, one of Miyas babies left us. She lost her battle against FPV Feline Parvo Virus after fighting hard for 3 days. 2 of her other babies are tested positive. Small Two tested on Sunday and Ginger tested yesterday. Small Two is currently not in very good state, she may not survive the day as her condition deteriorate this morning. Ginger is still looking ok but its hard to say. They may have been infected by Miya and due to their very young age. Full vaccinated and older cats has very low chance of getting FPV due to their strong immune system. FPV affects mostly kittens and unvaccinated young cats. This virus is very aggressive, it will attack the intestines which causes diarrhea and vomiting. Cats usually die of dehydration and shock within days. Rescuers in Malaysia faces very challenging task due to a wide range of viruses/diseases in stray cats besides than the usual abuse or abandoned cases. Sporothricosis, FIV, FIP, FELV, FRD and FPV are some of the deadly ones. Were trying our very best to save them all and trying all kinds of medications made available by our vets. If theres no new outbreak by end of the week, we should be safe. Theyre under very strict quarantine now, means we have to bleach our hands and feets when we step out from their room. We have monitor them closely to spot symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting. We had to push forward our mass vaccination to last Sunday. We were really caught off guard even after taking precautions like quarantining new cats and identifying those not well. We have our weekly vet visits as usual to check on the sick ones. We moved all the kittens to cages outside the house and minimal contact as precautions. We would like to share these with you the importance of vaccinations. Kitten weighing at least 600gms are able to be vaccinated. Do not wait till theyre sick to do it. It might be too late. Vaccinations will save you lots on vet bills. As Miya was rescued as a very sick pregnant stray, we were already prepared to lose some of her babies in the first few weeks. But things to a u turn, we are facing the challenge to save as much kittens as we can. Were sorry Rika, we tried our best but we couldnt save you. Bye baby girl, well miss you. Please pray for Small Two and Ginger. #vaccinationsavelives
