Hi everyone, It’s that time again; time to renew your membership. Not a current member & would like to be? Visit our website tmgenealogists.org to download a Membership form & pop it in the mail, its that easy. Just a reminder, this upcoming year our meetings will be on the second Thursday of each month instead of the first since the Library was already taken for the first Thursdays. We will publish a list of meeting dates in our September newsletter. We are kicking off our first meeting on Thursday September 12, 2013. We still are meeting at the Tinley Park Public Library 7851 Timber Drive, Tinley Park. Doors open at 6:15pm, business meeting at 6:45, program beginning at 7pm. Speaker - Richard Lanyon Program – “Building the Canal To Save Chicago” This program will describe the unsanitary conditions that persisted in Chicago in the late 1800s, the formation of the Sanitary District and the construction of the canal that enabled the reversal of the flow in the Chicago River. Dick Lanyon currently resides in Evanston, Illinois and is retired from his position as Executive Director of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD). Dick’s career at the MWRD spanned nearly 48 years. In 2012, Dick published Building the Canal to Save Chicago, a historical documentary of the first project of the MWRD. In 2013, Dick received the Abel Wolman Award from the Chgo Metro Chapter of the American Public Works Association for the single best new book on public works history. Books will be available for purchase that evening
