Hi everyone ! Ugh...the dreaded day is here... August 1. I said I wasnt going to be posting anything original until today so I guess Id better take my first step to becoming somewhat productive. Firstly, Id like to welcome all the new people who have liked this page ! Im kind of a bit overwhelmed that were almost at 1200 people !! (Yeah..no pressure there !!) Heres a little introduction about this page. This page started about a year ago when I needed an outlet for the things that were going on in my head. I searched and searched and I found it very hard to find any teachers out there who were talking about what is REALLY going on in their classrooms and I found that extremely frustrating. So I tried to become a blogger. Lol...that didnt work. I actually found it cumbersome and kind of a pain in the butt. I dont have time or energy to post things in multiple places, so I ditched the blog and decided that since Im a Facebook junkie anyway...Id just post everything here ! (One stop shopping !) The first thing you need to know about me and this page is that Im telling it as it is. I may change and modify some things to protect confidentiality but what youll get here is the truth. Like it says in the About section - The good, the bad and the sometimes downright hilarious ! I see so many pages and blogs and articles about teachers and how wonderful their lives are and how every single day is a joy and they couldnt imagine doing anything else. Their students are perfect and their lesson plans are perfect and lets be honest here...they must be crushing Xanax in their coffee in the morning and have a Cabernet drip in their arms, because anyone who has done this job and done it right knows...It is HARD !!! (ooh...umm...umm...perhaps I should have mentioned that I tend to be just a little on the sarcastic side :-/ ... If you dont appreciate sarcasm, honestly and the ability to find humor in certain situations and laugh at yourself...this might not be the best place for you and you wont offend me if you unlike the page ! :) ) But moving on. I really do love my job. Trust me, if I didnt, there is NO WAY I would get up every morning and go back. Granted...some days its harder than others. But then you have those days and those moments that make you realize why youre doing it. I like to use an example my Dad has used on several occasions when he was trying to teach me how to play golf. Im paraphrasing a bit here but it goes something like this... You wont hit every shot brilliantly, but in every round theres that one incredible shot that makes you go back out and play another day. I think teaching is the same way. Were not going to save them all. (and it took me a long time to accept that, so newbies...I feel for you because when you first start...you want to save and change the world.) But the ones we do reach hold a special place in our hearts and we never forget them. WOAH !! I seem to have gone from sarcasm to sappy in a matter of 4 paragraphs ! lolol...ok...back to the purpose of this page... So as I was saying, I was looking for a place that I could share what really happens in a classroom...my classroom. In a later post, Ill describe for you what my classroom looks like to give you a picture of my little corner of the educational world. (I wont do that now, because I think I lost some of you on the sappy thing and lets tell the truth...teachers have attention spans that are worse than our students !!) So here it is, Teacher in the Trenches (TnT for short (It took me a few days to come up with an acronym that wasnt obscene or rude lol). Those of you who are new to the page will notice that sometimes it seems like Im very familiar with some of the people who make comments (like this mornings post lol). Like I said, this page started out as a little blog that was being followed by about 100 people, most of them colleagues who work with me and some old friends, new friends and (EEK) members of my family ! To my new new friends who I havent ever met that like this page...Welcome...I hope youll stay. If you like something you read, please click like.
