Hichilema’s Mansa, Isoka Rallies Flop Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema has recorded serious flops in rallies when visiting Mansa and Isoka in Luapula and Northern parts of the country where is party is virtually non-existent. Sources in Hichilema’s campaign team have disclosed to Zambia Reports that the UPND leader is struggling to hold successful meetings in most part of northern Zambia where his party has remained a non-entity. “When the meetings failed in Mansa, HH rushed to a community radio station and featured on a paid program but it was not helpful for the campaign,” the source said. “In Isoka, the meeting was a flop. It could not go ahead because only a few very young children were in attendance. It was really embarrassing for us” The source said there is too much deception in the UPND team who think they’ve already won the election when they are still far. According to the source, the UPND can only successfully win Southern Province alone. “In North Western, we may make just win in Solwezi Central and in Central Province, we have some strong presence in Chibombo and Chisamba,” the source said. The source says UPND were far from even getting 20 percent on the Coppperbelt while Lusaka is not within their charge and a similar case applies with Western Province. “If you honestly look at the trends now, we are not favourites… far from it. But there are people who are not telling HH the truth,” the source said. Meanwhile, the UPND has defended its leader Hichilema’s wide ranging camapign promises claiming their opponents were just scared of the impact their president was making. UPND deputy secretary general Kuchunga Simusamba said there was nothing unrealistic about promising to deliver a people driven constitution within six months of taking over power. He said if presidential elections could be held within 90 days of a sitting president dying there could be nothing wrong implementing a new constitution within 60 days. He said people were being skeptical because they had suffered at the hands of lying politicians who had made them doubt any well meaning leaders. Simusamba said that the UPND was working within the framework of its manifesto in making campaign promises. “We have heard those statements but i think our opponents are just jittery because the message is connecting with the majority of the suffering Zambians,” he said. “We are able to have a presidential election within 90 days of a sitting president dying so what is difficult about having a referendum commission within six months of being in power. After all we already have a draft we are calling the final draft.” The UPND has made dramatic promises like the re-instatement of the fired nurses, lifting the wage freeze and delivering a people driven constitution zambiareports/2014/12/11/hichilemas-mansa-isoka-rallies-flop/
