High Performance Programme for cricketers: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Monday announced a High Performance Programme for the national cricket team’s preparations for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers and 50-over World Cup Qualifiers in an ill-prepared press conference. The cricket governing body said the High Performance Program will cost around US $250,000 and will begin with an expected two- week tour to New Delhi. However, CAN members including President Tanka Angbuhang were not prepared much to give all details of the Program. Angbuhang was only able to inform that the national team will leave for Sri Lanka andBangladesh for practice tour. It was only after some repeatedinquiry from reporters, CAN member Sanjeev Pandeyinformed revealed that the national team will play at leastseven practice match in the tourbeginning from October 20 against the teams associated with Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). The CAN committee looked impatient to inform about their recent agreement with DDCA and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA). Angbuhang, member Pandey and newly- appointed CAN counselor Amir Akhtar had met with the officials of DDCA and MPCA in India to form a deal that brought exchange programmes between the Indian district and state cricket associations and Nepal. Akhtar – a former national team cricketer – termed the agreement as a historic one. “Previously our tours came courtesy of personal relations but now we have officially tied up with two cricket governing bodies in India. The agreement also means that we can now send our cricketers for further training under the respective associations,” he said. The High Performance Programme will also include specialised – batting, bowling and fielding – coaching to the national cricketers. CAN has already worked forward to bring Australia’s Chris Harris as batting coach. Harris is the batting coach of Vicotria State. CAN has already formed a seven- member committee for the World Cup Qualifiers’ Preparation under the leadership of Angbuhang. The cricket governing body has also appointed its member Purna Lama as the team manager for High Performance Programme.
