High school football: Galileo earns spot in S.F. playoffs Quarterback Phillip Tran was perfect, wide receiver Rodney Morgan played and defending champion Galileo earned the last San Francisco Section playoff spot with a 40-6 home win over Burton on Friday. Tran completed all nine of his passes for 186 yards and accounted for all six touchdowns as the Lions (4-6, 3-3 Academic Athletic Association) not only earned the last playoff spot but also sneaked into third place. Lincoln (5-5, 5-1) won 40-8 over host Lowell (2-7, 2-4) on Friday, and visiting Mission (7-3, 6-0) rolled to a 54-14 win over Washington (1-9, 1-5). Galileo will play at second-place Lincoln in a first-round SFS playoff game Thursday, while AAA champion Mission, which doesn’t have a home field, will play fourth-place Balboa (3-6, 3-3) at Lowell. The winners play in the Turkey Day Game at Lowell on Thanksgiving. “All the playoff teams seem to be peaking,” Lincoln coach Phil Ferrigno said. “It should be two great weeks of football.” Tran completed three of his TD passes to Morgan and another to Jamari Hilliard-Vasquez. The first-year quarterback also ran for two scores. Marvin Suazo completed a 31-yard TD pass to Raymond He for Burton (1-7, 1-5). Tran “was really decisive with the ball,” Galileo coach Mark Huynh said. It helps to have a receiver like Morgan, who was a big contributor on last year’s 12-1 squad. “I thought coming into the season that Rodney was one of the best receivers in the city,” Huynh said. “When he plays, we win.” In the three games he missed for either injury or discipline, the Lions lost, including 46-6 at Lincoln last week. Lincoln had three rushers break the 100-yard mark: Jacquez Williams-Chish (131 yards), Brandynn Nesby (123) and Savion Hollingsworth (120). Williams-Chish rushed for three scores and returned an interception 70 yards for another. He finished the regular season with 1,274 yards and 16 TDs on the ground; he also had six returns for scores. “He’s pretty good,” Lincoln coach Phil Ferrigno said. Teammates Delvon Meadors and Andy Nguyen added interceptions and Ifeanyi Ebochie and Ronald Phelps had 10 tackles apiece. “The kids are really playing well,” Ferrigno said.Frank Hall scored five touchdowns, all on special teams according to coach Joe Albano, in leading Mission to victory. Jordan Maldonado returned an interception for a touchdown and Branden Rodriguez added two TDs for the winners, who ran just two offensive plays in the fourth quarter. North Coast Section playoffs: The Bay Area’s leading rusher, Najee Harris, ran for a school record 371 yards and four touchdowns to push his total to a school season record of 2,123 yards as 10th-seeded Antioch (7-4) won 50-26 over host San Leandro in Division I. … Sean Pinson had 162 yards rushing to lead sixth-seeded Freedom-Oakley (7-4) to a 33-28 win over visiting Monte Vista-Danville (4-7), which got 376 yards passing and four TDs by sophomore Jake Haener in the Division I game. … Ninth-seeded San Ramon Valley-Danville (7-4) turned the tables on an earlier defeat with a 34-16 win at James Logan-Union City (8-3). An interception return for touchdown by Carter Nichols gave SRV a 17-10 lead in the second quarter it wouldn’t relinquish. … In Division III, Gunner Mefferd passed for 185 yards and two scores and Carlos Franco had 129 yards rushing as seventh-seeded Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park (8-3) defeated previously undefeated and host Kennedy-Fremont 38-13. Central Coast Section: An 86-yard TD pass from Kamalii Akina to Darius Thomas keyed No. 13 St. Francis’ 21-13 WCAL win over visiting and No. 20 St. Ignatius (5-5, 2-5). . … Tre McCloud rushed for two short touchdowns and Kirk Johnson added a 21-yard TD run as sixth-ranked Valley Christian (8-2, 6-1) clinched a share of the WCAL title with a 28-0 win over visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral (3-7, 0-7).
