Hit and run at Port Augusta today. Police have made two arrests in regards to a number of incidents including a hit-and-run car accident on Thursday morning. The first incident - the-hit and-run, occurred at 8.35am Thursday morning and involved a collision between two vehicles on the intersection of Augusta Highway and Tottenham Road. The two people in a dark Toyota Camry tried to flee the scene in their car, but careered off the highway shortly after. A patrol officer approached a man from the Toyota who was attempting to stop passing vehicles. He was arrested but allegedly assaulted the solo police officer. Fortunately during the arrest, members of the public came to the officers assistance. The suspects car was also searched with police allegedly discovering a traffickable quantity of what police suspect is amphetamine. It is also believed one of the suspects attempted to rob Hungry Jacks at some stage during the ordeal. The driver of the car, a 24-year-old man from the Northern Territory, has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner, leaving the scene of a collision, attempted robbery, aggravated assault police and trafficking in a controlled drug. The passenger, a 23-year-old female also from NT, was also charged with aggravated assault police and providing false details. The arrested pair have been refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court tomorrow.
