Hmong New Year Festival at Chiang Mai, Thailand Chiang Mai, Thailand - Hmong community from 50 villages came together to celebrated their New Year at Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province. This year, the Hmong community in Chiang Mai held their New Year as the largest Hmong New Year festival in Thailand. The festival was held from January 1-5 at Buak Chun Village. There were both Hmong and non-Hmong people came to celebrated this special Hmong New Year. Many came back to their villages to celebrated this event with their families, relatives and friends, as well as many Hmong from oversea also went there to join the festival. President of the Provincial Administration of Chiang Mai, Mr. Boonlert Buranupakorn, was invited to open the celebration. Other special guests were included district mayor, local government officers, and city council members. These guests also wore beautiful Hmong clothes to the event. Activities at the event included parade, live performances, hands-on activities, foods, lively marketplace, Miss Hmong Pageant, as well as the show of the well-being of the Hmong people.
