Hongera, Kenya! Kenya turns 51 tomorrow. German President - TopicsExpress

Hongera, Kenya! Kenya turns 51 tomorrow. German President Joachim Gauck sent the following message to H.E. President Kenyatta and the Kenyan people: Mr President, On the occasion of this year’s Jamhuri Day, the anniversary of Kenya’s independence, allow me to offer you and the Kenyan people my sincere congratulations and those of my fellow Germans. Our two countries share a long-standing and close bond of friendship. I am therefore following political, economic and social developments in Kenya as well as Kenya’s positive influence in the region with great interest and goodwill. Germany appreciates Kenya’s commitment very highly, also with regard to special challenges such as the resolution of the crisis in South Sudan, the stabilisation of Somalia or global environmental and climate issues. Kenya is working significantly for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. This is illustrated by your country’s contribution towards stability in Somalia within the framework of AMISOM as well as by your own personal contribution to the peace negotiations held in Juba and Addis Ababa in the context of the conflict in South Sudan. I hope that our two countries will continue on the sometimes difficult path of standing by our shared convictions and will continue to work together as partners at international level to foster human rights, peace and environmental protection. Allow me to wish you and the people of Kenya all the very best for a bright and peaceful future. Joachim Gauck President of the Federal Republic of Germany
