Honor Goes to the “Coward” Proverbs 20:3 Have you ever noticed that the world holds up its warriors as heroes? It’s true; we all love to watch movies where the hero defeats his enemies, wins the prize, gets the girl, and lives happily ever after. A “winner” is far too often portrayed as the person who is the fastest, the strongest, the toughest, the smartest…but, as is so often the case, the Bible flies in the face of conventional “wisdom.” In Proverbs, Solomon writes, “Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor, only a fool insists on quarreling” Proverbs 20:3 (NLT). Honor given to a coward? Or is honor given to the one who loves peace and lives in harmony with his neighbor? Well, if avoiding a fight is the world’s definition of a coward, then I want people to point to me and say, “There stands the most cowardly person I know.” (I’ll wear that badge of honor with pride.) ~Randy & Trena Reed
