Hope birthed faith By: Josh Clevenger Hope-to wish for a particular event that one considers possible Romans 4:18-21New International Version (NIV) 18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Hope is the ability to have strength to move forward when nothing around you indicates that you will have what you are putting your hope in. Abraham was the father of our faith because he had hope. Abraham wanted a son but did not have a son. Abraham and Sarah desperately wanted to have a child but they were both passed their youth. The Lord promised Abraham a son but it did not happen right away. Abraham waited many years before the promise took place. The Bible says he hoped and against hope. He did not allow his vision for his life to die and he did not allow time to destroy his passion. The time we have to wait for things to materialize in our lives can be very difficult. You may feel you are at your breaking point because you do not see your promise before you. The key is to understand the nature of the Lord. If you desire it in your life the Lord understands your desire. If you have done everything in your power to make it come to pass but have yet to see it happen. This is a place where hope will carry you. Hope will give life to your dreams and give you stamina to make it to the end. The Bible says, “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” We must put our hope in the Lord and not in our ability. Abraham and Sarah were both past the ages to have children but the Lord still gave them the promise. The Lord wasn’t putting faith in them but He was putting faith in himself. All Abraham and Sarah had to do was believe but we know that Sarah laughed and Abraham took Sarah’s servant. The Lord called Abraham faithful because in the end he believed. You cannot mess up God’s will because even when you make a mistake, He will turn it for your good. Put your hope in the Lord because He wants to show you the unseen things in your life. You will see your dreams come to pass because there is someone on your side grater than you. The Lord is for you and where you fail in life, He will not fail. You are an over comer in Him today because the Lord loves you tremendously. You will win in the end because the Lord is on your side. Do not loose heart or loose sight of what you have hoped for in your life. Set your focus on the loving nature of the Lord and He will restore your hope. Faith is the substance of things hoped for in your life. Hope and faith play hand in hand. Faith is your ability to understand that the Lord will bring it pass and hope brings your strength as the Lord is working it out. Abraham strengthened his faith by his hope in the Lord. Hope birthed faith and faith brought the hope to pass. Abraham is the example of faith and Abraham never gave up hope. Today renew your hope in the Lord and prepare to succeed in your life.
