How do I set up to get paid to PayPal? The Basics PayPal features and fees vary widely depending on country. Though freelancers in most countries can register with PayPal, many countries are not supported for transfers from PayPal to your bank account. Before sending your oDesk earnings to PayPal, please check to see if they support your country. Most freelancers on oDesk find that using a personal PayPal account is fine; however, they may limit your account until you pass their verification procedures, and usually require a bank account or credit card. There is no need to register for a premier or business account unless you need to use those type of account features, like sending mass payments or low cost credit card processing, for example. The Background Please keep the following things in mind: Confirm your PayPal account and complete any necessary verification process with them before sending them your earnings. You are responsible for making sure that PayPal provides the services you need before you send them your money. When you get paid, oDesk transfers the money to PayPal and we cannot retrieve it. Only send your earnings from oDesk to PayPal once you know you can access your money after the transfer. In most cases, your payment transfers immediately. However, there are rare occasions when it may take up to 24 hours. If it has been more than 24 hours, contact Support Services. We recommend setting your primary currency to US dollars on PayPal to reduce currency conversion fees. This can be set during account registration or be changed later. Sharing a PayPal account is not permitted. You must use your own registered PayPal account. In countries where transfers are not offered, you may be able to open an account, using your earnings to use PayPal to pay online merchants or to transfer money to other peoples PayPal accounts. See PayPal Offerings Worldwide for a complete list of countries and available services. Once you get paid using PayPal, oDesk does not have control over the funds and cannot reverse the transaction. It is your responsibility to ensure your vendor account is properly set to handle the transactions. The Details If you already have a PayPal account: Registered to the same email address you on oDesk, you can set PayPal immediately. Registered to another email address, choose one of the following ways to make your PayPal and oDesk emails match: Add the email address you use on oDesk to your existing PayPal account. When you log into the PayPal website this option is in My Account > Profile. Click the link in the confirmation email from PayPal to complete the addition. Or, Click the Settings icon on any oDesk page to change your email address to match the one on your PayPal account. If you need to create a new PayPal account: Go to PayPal and confirm that your country is supported and that their features and fees are acceptable. Register for a PayPal account using the same email address you use for your oDesk account. Confirm your email address with PayPal. Once confirmed, ensure you have a way to access the funds sent to the account. The process varies by method and country. To add PayPal up as a payment method: Click the Settings icon and click Get Paid under User Settings. Click Add a payment method. Click the Set Up button for PayPal. Verify that your PayPal account and your oDesk account use the same email address and click Next. Choose a payment schedule and click Next. For security reasons, your new payment method will become active in three days. To edit your PayPal account: You must make changes directly through PayPal—including adding or changing email addresses or closing the accounts. To remove your PayPal payment method: Click the Settings icon and click Get Paid under User Settings. Under Payment Methods, find the one you want to remove and click its edit link. Click Remove.
