How to prevent weight gain when we give up smoking Smoking is a bad habit and people often make lame excuses when they are asked to quit. One of the reasons is weight gain. When you quit smoking normal weight gain is about 3 to 10 ponds. But, this is not the case. Smart people often smoke and do not gain weight after quitting. If you are serious in leaving this habit then must keep following points in mind to avoid weight gain. 1.First aspect is the hunger pangs which you fell while quitting smoking; Make sure you have taken your breakfast the day when you want to leave smoking. Otherwise your body will be deficient of sugar and you feel hungrier. 2.You can use nicotine patches that greatly help in reducing the appetite. In this way you will not gain excessive weight as you will not feel hungry. 3.Carbohydrates are effective solutions for reducing the hunger pangs. Regular intake of carbohydrates also reduced the appetite and hence lower food intake. 4.Always keep yourself active and energetic. With a tired body you will feel hungrier and will look for some food and snacks. Never stop trying when you are tired. 5.Stay away from heavy oily food that causes weight gain. Try not to use them when you start quitting smoking, do not look at them or keep them aside. 6.When you feel hungry eat snack which has less cholesterol and fat. Use nuts and low fat yogurt to remove the appetite. Stick with healthy low fat diets while quitting. 7.Drink a lot of water to keep the body hydrated. It also works best to reduce the extra hunger pangs from the body. 8.Daily exercise keeps your attitude positive and you will feel motivated to quit smoking. Without exercise your body will feel more tired and chances of smoking are increased.
