Humbled: Running through the Atlanta airport last night to catch - TopicsExpress

Humbled: Running through the Atlanta airport last night to catch my plane, my foot got caught in the strap of my briefcase and I fell hard to the ground. As I worked to get to my feet (not an easy task), I suddenly looked up at an older teenage boy with tattoos from head to toe and wearing one of those flat billed Colorado Rocky hats (my profile training immediately biased me - gang member). He knelt down beside me and said, Sir dont get up, are you hurt? I said,No but I am going to miss my flight. Sir, what is your gate? It was about a hundred yards away. He said, Let me carry your bags and I will get you there. Together we ran the remaining hundred yards with his arm wrapped in mine and my carry-ons wrapped around his other arm. By the time we got to the gate, we were laughing. At the gate he asked, Sir, are you okay? I said, Yes, but I think I hurt my hip. He recruited a gate agent to help me and my bags get to my first class seat. As I was leaving him, he actually hugged me. Whoever he was, whatever his history, I am angry that I didnt get his name and I am more angry that I didnt recognize an angel with tattoos. I am encouraged by his humanity and embarrassed for being such a klutz on so many levels.
