Hurricane Vance strengthened a bit this afternoon. Maximum sustained winds are now 85 mph - a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional strengthening during the next day or so is expected, followed by a weakening trend beginning by late Monday. Vance is centered about 515 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, as of 1 p.m. PST / 4 p..m. EST, moving toward the northwest. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect at this time. However, swells generated by Vance are expected to begin affecting portions of coast of southwestern Mexico and Baja California in a day or two.
