Hurst Green 2 Colne 1 By Dave Priestley | Sunday 21st July 2013 Report by Brian Coates On Saturday Colne travelled to the Ribble Valley to face opposition from West Lancashire League newcomers Hurst Green. In the first half Colne took an early lead after just 10 minutes when Tom Fowler ’s speculative shot from inside his own area caught Matt Pilkington off his guard as the ball flew past him and nestled into the top far corner of the net. The rest of the half was an evenly matched contest. Dave Blacklock came close for Colne while Chris Scott was unlucky to see his shot drop onto the Colne crossbar. Pilkington then pulled off an incredible save to deny Jason Hart and at the other end Chris Thompson did equally well to prevent what looked like a certain goal. In the second half Colne experimented with their formation and Hurst Green took advantage by equalising through Chris Byrne and then taking the lead through Ashley Brearley.
