I don’t watch the local news but when I started seeing comments on line in support of my niece I checked into what was happening. My niece is Zoe Naylor, and the local news headlines tell me she was fired by the Albany City School district for “retweeting the N-word.” I’ve not seen the tweet but I understand that Zoe retweeted a photo where someone else used the N-word in their comment. Certainly it is a word used to belittle and abuse but it’s also used in a less derogatory way in today’s world. I’ve heard it used as a greeting on TV and I suspect the black man who used the N-word in a comment to the photo that Zoe “retweeted” had no intention of insulting anyone. So here Zoe sits in the cross-fire. How lucky was the local news to have Zoe to crush into the ground so they could piggy back on the national story of a real racist, the owner of the LA Clippers. How lucky was the Albany School Superintendent to have a young optimistic woman just starting out to point a finger at and push to the curb when someone whispered in her ear. There is irony here. Zoe is literally the least racist person I know and the show of support she is getting from the kids she grew up with in her old Albany neighborhood proves my theory. Hang in there Zoe. I am so sorry this happened to you.-Janice Naylor
