OVERVIEW Background and Request Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc. TM is a music production organization which is dedicated to the creation, production, distribution and sale of music videos. We differ from many for-profit organizations in our commitment to dedicating a significant portion of our profits to humanitarian relief, both at home and abroad. Our goal is to donate a significant amount of the profit realized through these efforts to organizations and groups who address issues which affect people around the globe, issues like homelessness, poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance, violence. Given the magnitude of the current worldwide economic crisis, these issues have only become more intensified and critical in many regions of the world. The goal of Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™, is simple: to bring renewed hope, in the form of concrete assistance, to a troubled world, through the medium and the magic of music. In pursuance of this goal, we respectfully request your consideration of our proposal in which we seek your assistance, in the amount of $300,000, for the initial production and promotion of our first album, “All American World Anthems.” As our projections will show (See Appendix C- Projected Budget), we fully expect to be self-supporting after this initial effort. All American Anthems Our initial project, which we are proposing herein, is the “All American World Anthems” production. The “All American World Anthems” are songs which have been conceived and written expressly to address the current social and economic upheaval, which have universal appeal, and which capture the spirit of determination and hope we are attempting to revive. We are certain that this music will not only imprint upon the public consciousness a more positive awareness of pressing social and economic issues, but also that it will invoke their participation in implementing ethical socio-economic solutions for problems which plague our society. Harnessing the Power of Music Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™ is an unabashed attempt to harness the awesome power of music. Through the medium of the global entertainment marketplace, to inspire people all around the world. Music has touched the human soul across all the known boundaries of both time and space. The ability of music to heal has been a known and documented fact for generations. The link between music and athletic performance is just one example of the inroads scientists and doctors are making into understanding the amazing power that music has over our minds and bodies. Science is backing up our intuition and experience, showing that music really does kill pain, reduce stress, better our brains and basically change how we experience life. From the Bible we remember that “Whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand; so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.” It is this power of music to heal which is still echoed in our daily lives. As English playwright and poet, William Congreve has noted, “Music has charms to soothe a savage breast,” and as classical cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, has commented “Healing? I think that is what music is all about. Don’t you?” When we speak of the Quality of Life (QOL) what we are referring to is a composite assessment that is influenced by all aspects of person hood – physical, psychosocial, and spiritual. Our QOL varies from moment to moment along a continuum that extends from suffering and anguish at one extreme to a sense of integrity and wholeness at the other. Healing involves a response shift toward the latter. Healing occurs when we are drawn into the present moment and away from the ruminations about past and future that consistently dominate our lives. It requires a letting go of literal, rational, linear patterns of thought and an acceptance of an intuitive, imaginable, metaphoric way of experiencing reality (expressed in some traditions as a shift from head to heart). It is associated with a sense of enriched personal meaning and a sense of connectedness. Some research has suggested that we experience healing connections at four levels: First, Healing occurs at a personal level which focuses on the essential importance of the “Self” as postulated in the individuation of Carl Jung; Secondly, Healing occurs at an external level of our connectedness with others in the family of man, as postulated in the “I/Thou “relationship of Martin Buber; Thirdly, Healing occurs in our ability to relate to the connectedness to the phenomenal world, as perceived through our senses -- for example, in response to music, nature, long distance running, the creative arts; and Fourth, Healing occurs through our sense of connection to ultimate meaning/God/the More, however that may be perceived by the individual. Some researchers feel that music, when it is truly healing, travels through some or all of these four paths to cut through the negativity of the many defenses we tend to erect, and to set free within us a deeper appreciation and acceptance of mystery and the potential for healing that lies within each of us. While, Newtonian physics told us that at base we are particulate; quantum physics, that we are vibratory, the truth of the matter seems to be that we are not either/or, but both/and. Perhaps, in its vibratory nature, music opens us to a greater appreciation of our essential connectedness to the cosmos, our oneness with all that is. Because we believe in the power of music to heal and because we believe that despite all evidence to the contrary, man – through the healing and calming force of music-- is capable enough, intelligent enough, and at bottom, good enough, to reach out to his fellow man and to participate in an unprecedented effort to revive the world economy and to re-establish an air of confidence in the magnanimous sacrifices being made by people of good will, wherever they may be found. Philosophical Underpinnings The theory postulated by John Maynard Keynes, a 30th century British economist, that government should spend money it did not have to stimulate the economy, may well have saved capitalism from extinction. Keynesian economics argues that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes, and therefore advocates active policy responses by the public sector, including monetary policy actions by the central bank and fiscal policy actions by the government, to stabilize output over the business cycle. In 1936, during the most severe period of the “Great Depression,” Keynes identified the economic importance of the “animal spirits of man” and postulated the theory that markets are moved by the animal spirits in man. Thus, if the animal spirits are dimmed and spontaneous optimism falters, financial markets will fail. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, an advocate of Keynesian economics, also knew the importance of restoring “Optimism and Hope” to “men’s hearts” to prevent their spirits from growing faint. Roosevelt’s famous statement that “We have nothing to fear, but fear, itself,” is a strong call intended to revive the faltering spirit of the American people. It would ultimately be a statement which would have significance not only for America, but for the world. The Didactic of Music Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™ will present music featuring such powerful concepts as “Uplift,” “Encouragement,” “and “Hope and Love” to capitalize an extended market fund raising venture launched under the banner of the Urban Aid: American International Renaissance Fund (The AIR FUND, “Our Love” is in the AIR). In this initial production, 14 all new, All American World Anthems, composed and designed by song writer Robert Austin Smith will help people around the world to “stem the tide of the “counter-productive” effects of psychological worry, fear, and doubt that are so common in so much of the world today. Love Songs for America and the World Urban Aid: Hearts Around the world, Inc. will produce music designed to “soothe the heart and beast’ of what John Maynard Keynes described as the “animal instincts in man.” We propose to use the medium of Music to reduce the “anxious spirit” that can cause continuation perpetuation of “market paralysis” during these troubled times. The all American World Anthems are designed to reach an international audience and to send to that audience the enduring message of All American Goodwill. The music we propose will be the theme song of President Barrack Obama’s $878 Billion Dollar American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill and Phase II of the $350 Billion “TARP” Economic Stimulus Package and the embattled “National Health Care Bill..”We believe that the awesome grassroots motivational thrust of the ”All American World Anthems” will not only inspire a resurgence volunteer ism and patriotism but that “All American World Anthems” will help inspire calm, and tranquility through the wholesome power of music, the one International language that crosses the International Date Line and that needs neither translation nor introduction. The fourteen “Love Songs for America and the World” will help reduce the deficit of consumer confidence caused by the social and political unrest around the world and the current global financial crisis (the Great Recession) Worldwide Fund Raising Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™, will establish a worldwide fund raising venture to help offset loss of contributions to key humanitarian organizations, churches and “quality of life” functionaries worldwide. This will be accomplished with national and international “not for profit” organization(s) that demonstrate similar need in their specific communities and that wish to raise funds in conjunction with Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™, and for their prospective organization(s), city government, state government, universities, colleges, sororities, fraternity, health and human service provider or public charity, etc. Major Goals Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™ was established to provide wholesome intellectual products including “music/videos” and related promotional items which will be marketed to raise funds which will be used to enhance “quality of life” issues, such as fine arts, sports, community economic development, scientific inquiry, education, philanthropy, and culture. Within the United States, Urban Aid, Inc.TM, proposes to work in conjunction with other partners to accomplish the following three major goals: • Urban Aid, Inc TM seeks to provide outstanding “hands-on” educational and training opportunities for talented young people in American urban areas such as Gary, Chicago, and Detroit. Under the guidance and supervision of major entertainment artisans, selected young people will be provided “hands-on” instruction to achieve proficiency in theoretical and practical knowledge and competency in the operations of the music industry, television, concert and film production, entertainment law, accounting, business and other facets of the entertainment arts. • Urban Aid, Inc.TM also seeks to use proceeds from this endeavor to build a Gary/Chicago Performing Arts Center, a unique all steel structure designed by a premier architect such as “Frank Gehry,” who designed Chicago’s prestigious Millennium Park. This facility will be an important entertainment venue and economic engine for the metropolitan area and will include a museum, a production facility, a concert arena, and a convention center. • Urban Aid, Inc.TM will also ensure that proceeds of these efforts are directly or indirectly channeled in such a way that they help to address some of the major economic and social problems which threaten the economic stability and viability of Gary, Indiana, including the crippling financial deficit which is forecast for the city, and the “quality of life” elements which will be affected in the wake of a major economic downturn. II.BACKGROUND AND ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION Mission To advance a “global movement to create a new, worldwide sunrise of love and to light the path and echo the virtue of non-partisan cooperation, humanitarian service and volunteerism. To light a renaissance for education, art, music, architecture, health & human services, medicine, science, philanthropy and the environment, with the flame of love, freedom and All American good will. To help stop today’s plague of urban violence in American & Worldwide. Background Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc.™, was incorporated in 2000 in the State of Indiana and subsequently (August 2007) recognized as a non-profit corporation under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The founder of Urban Aid: Hearts Around The World, Inc.™ is Robert J. Austin, a native of Gary and a career employee of United States Steel, the company responsible both for Garys existence and for the innovative growth of the steel industry worldwide. Robert Austin Robert Austin is a record producer, artist, writer and arranger who has written and arranged music in corroboration with some of the top artists in the music industry, including Michael Jackson, ‘the King of Pop’; Gene Page, arranger/producer for Barry White, Denise Williams, Johnny Mathis, and the Jackson Five. Future proposed collaborations are currently being negotiated with Paul Riser, arranger for Smokey Robinson, the Miracles, Diana Ross, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder, and R. Kelly; as well as, James Anthony Carmichael, arranger/producer for Lionel Richie and the Commodores; and H.B. Barnum, arranger for Aretha Franklin. Our initial project will be the production of fourteen songs written by Robert Austin. These songs will be referred to in this document as “All American World Anthems,” but a final decision has yet to be made about the name under which the songs will be marketed. II. INITIAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND TIMETABLE Project Costs Our initial funding request is for a total of $300,000.00 dollars. This amount will cover all administrative, operating, and recording production costs for 2 songs produced over a period of one year. We estimate that it will cost $165,000.00 dollars to produce 1 song and an additional $30,000 dollars to produce a second song during the same recording session. As you can see, it is more efficient @ $198,000 dollars to produce 2 songs simultaneously due to the logistics of assembling an impressive cast of arrangers, musicians, and studio equipment with [ISDM] remote recording ability and major artists. Through an aggressive marketing strategy, which is estimated at @ $102,000 dollars for the first two songs, we anticipate that the project will be self-supporting after the first year of operation. Timetable First option, ideally, the proposed timetable would be for the first CD single (“A Message from Michael, Coretta and Martin: Merry Christmas Jesus from America”) to be ready for INTERNET distribution by November 24, 2011 in order to take advantage of the Christmas holiday season. We plan to have the second CD single (“A Message from Michael, Coretta, and Martin: One Song, It’s Love, One Love”) ready for Internet distribution by January 1, 2012, in order to capitalize on Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday (January 15th) and Black History Month. The remaining songs will be recorded and released as singles over the next 12 months and will culminate as an album with the tentative title: “All American World Anthems.” Second option, we plan to have the first CD single (“A Message from Michael, Coretta, and Martin: One Song, It’s Love, One Love”) ready for Internet distribution by January 1, 2012, in order to capitalize on Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday (January 15th) and Black History Month. We plan to have the second song (“A New Sun Raise of Love/Stand up for Love - Who Knows Love”), which is an all female vocal recording. The remaining songs will be recorded and released as singles over the next 12 months and will culminate as an album with the tentative title: “Love Songs for America and the World” – “The All American World Anthems.” Proposed artists for these 2 songs are as follows: Narration: President, Barack Obama, First Lady, Michelle Obama; Female: Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, Rebbie Jackson, Chaka Khan, Taylor Swift; Male: Paul McCartney, Dennis Edwards, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, John ‘Cougar’ Mellancamp; IV. IMPLIMENTATION AND MARKETING Distribution The initial fund raising effort will involve the sales of “All American World Anthems” through Internet downloads.” These productions will be protected by “exclusive” [Apple, Microsoft] anti-piracy “encryption” which provides such protection of the intellectual property of participating artists and organizations. “Internet Information Technology Marketing” will provide direct customer sales with minimum overhead, with the exception of the initial costs of planning, recording and promotion. Maximum Saturation To promote broader distribution, the “All American Anthems” will be recorded in 6 language versions and 10 music genres such as: Country & Western, RB, Blues, Gospel, etc. This will provide worldwide ‘maximum multi-market saturation’ and promote our philanthropic purpose on a global scale, and hopefully, produce broader “All American” goodwill. Special Partnerships Additional funds will be raised through special partnerships with philanthropic organizations worldwide. Participating organizations will be able to retain 50% of all sale revenue that the organizations obtain from the sales of both Internet downloads and hard copy products. The remaining 50% will be put back into the project Product distribution will be in both the United States and appropriate international markets. Future manufacturing and distribution costs will be funded through advance sales to participating philanthropic Fortune 500 Corporations. Manufacturing The manufacturing costs of all products will be subsidized with exclusive partnership marketing agreements with Internet content providers (I Tunes, AOL, Microsoft, Google, MTV, etc); major “fast food” and “boutique” retail sales corporations (MC Donald’s, Star bucks, etc) ; international “rack jobber” retail sales chains (Wal-Mart, K-Mart/Sears); and retail sales gasoline/Oil Corporations (Marathon Oil, BP). Special Promotions Urban Aid, Inc.TM will also raise funds by providing special promotions for existing philanthropic organizations and with select organizations who engage in “Quality of Life” Green Corporate Product Advertisements (Toyota/Lexus/GM-Hybrids Car & Trucks) and international “Quality of Life” issues such as: the “HIV/Aids Pandemic,” the King Center for Non–Violence, Atlanta, Ga., SCLC, Rainbow PUSH, NAACP, Urban League, and Worldwide Catholic Charities, etc. V. BENEFITS Urban Aid: Hearts Around the World, Inc., TM will recognize the contribution of a major partner by: 1. Media Exposure & Promotion: We anticipate that this project will generate a vast amount of media attention for a “Global Sponsor Partners” that will benefit from hundreds of media placements each year which will reach millions of Americans and nations around the world and focus goodwill in support of their primary product, service or mission 2. Opportunities for Improved Customer Relations: Participation in this project will assist “Global Sponsor Partners” in strengthening relationships with existing customers and building relationships with new ones. 3.
