I aint no Chicken Little, but its getting harder to cross the road. We wonder why cancer is whirling though our lives, not to mention all the other current mental and physical issues that were not prevalent in our recent past. How about we stir in some pesticides, fertilizers, and chemicals, add a host of toxic emissions, oil spills, and carbon dioxide gas, throw in some in industrial waste, then we can top the cake by clear cutting all the forests. We are not slowly killing our dear planet, we are horsewhipping it to death. At the rate we are going, the only way it stands a chance is if mankind takes itself out through our own stupidity. Most of these problems are caused by those with the power, those that control the financial and economic interests of the world, the ones that profit from all the above. And you know why they do it, because we are their consumers. And, we being the customers, just keep givin it to them. And yet… I see so many making a difference, making their footprint smaller, not adding to the chaos and consumerism. I behold people caring about one another and the animals and the rain forests. I hear people making music see others with their art. There are the dancers and writers and poets; there are cosmologists, zen masters, and Dalai Lamas. Even the Pope gives me hope. I witness new souls being born, watch the kindness in my grandchildrens generation, know that my childrens generation want a peaceful world. I recognize that most in my generation and the people I know truly attempt to make a difference, and want the world to be a better place. The generation before me is transitioning, and I get a glimpse that we are once again trying to die gracefully. And yet, all of this makes me cry. Its like horrible/beautiful. We need a third way. The question is: whats possible?
