I am an American and happen to live in a foreign country for the - TopicsExpress

I am an American and happen to live in a foreign country for the most of the past 30 years where most of my neighbors are also expats from many other western countries. An example being the school my children go to here in Phuket Thailand. There are 120 students that come from some 30 different countries. So I hear a lot about what other; educated, intelligent, sophisticated world citizens and travelers, whom are my friends and neighbors, think of the good old USA. I have over the past 30 years witnessed the decline of respect for America and more so American politics and politicians. This decline was on a steady downward trend starting some 20 years ago, spiking steeply downwards at times that America used it’s military might at the drop of a hat, and when internal political events like the past government shutdown, and this possibility of defaulting on our debts is politically driven. And yes there were other times that this downward slope came close to leveling off or even heading into a positive direction; like when Obama became President, people of the world listened to him and actually had hope we as a nation would come to our senses, that we would return to being a world leader they again could look up to. Then entered the Tea Party – without any reservations, I do not know any ONE person from any ONE country that agrees with or even can comprehend anything they stand for, or agrees with anything they want, or their methods of getting what they want – not ONE person period! So as of lately, even some great achievements by the USA have not stopped the downward and even increasing slope of the loss of respect for America, because things like this political stalemate over something as stupid as providing universal health care (that they all have enjoyed for so many decades or centuries). They just can’t quite grasp our political stalemate over something so fundamentally important, something that we already voted on, that passed even the supreme courts test, they simply are dumbfounded at all this stalemate leading to the government stoppage and possible defaulting on our debts! We argued before the law was passed and still arguing after when a small Tea Party minority in congress tries to defund it – really it is much more than a show of stupidity in the world’s eyes it is a huge slice out of what respect is left! This polarizing, numbing effect of political wrangling, and really something that is so illogical and just outright stupid in so many ways, others around the world that looked up to us quite frankly feel the way the honorable Irish president so beautifully spells out in this audio clip, that I has to share it and my thoughts. Unfortunately, the slope of the loss of respect for America is coming close to hitting bottom, so much that when 30 years ago I would proudly introduce myself as an American and, wow, you know, I would see and feel the respect in the entire room. Now, it is so much different, the loss is so apparent, and inevitably I shall get asked the question of how this can be happening in the great country of American – and I simply can’t answer it. But that is not the ending, we can overcome and climb back to the heights of respect we had before, we only have to take charge and get those that have taken our respect out of politics, get big business that cares nothing of our respect and only about profits out of our politics – that is the only salvation for America in my point of view! Anyways – this Irish man is hilarious and so right on and blows away the other guy trying to defend the Teat party side – it is so funny, enjoy! Now please, I do not write this post so that it becomes an American bashing topic, and I will not allow that. I write it in the hopes that some of my family and fellow Americans can try to comprehend what the world thinks of this really stupid situation the tee baggers got us into and to try to convince them to just let it go this time. If "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" (PPACA), or Obama Care, is SO BAD – just fund it and let it fail on its own! If you can add to this goal or want to defend the tee baggers, your welcome to comment!
