I am heartsick... Apparently someone poisoned the dogs at a local rescue. Twisted Whiskers has 4 dogs confirmed and others are being monitored. At least 2 are not expected to survive. I do not always agree with Kerri on her choices, but that does not mean I would ever see an animal suffer because I disagreed or even if I friggin hated her! I fully support the right that everyone has to protect their home, property, and animals from predators - domestic or wild. If her dogs were penned and someone came onto her land and poisoned them, I hope they are found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Living in the country - leash laws just cant be enforced (if they even apply). My dogs have specific neighbors that they have decided are a part of their herd and so they keep coyotes and other predators off their property in addition to ours. Only once did this create a problem when James (LGD) decided to keep some pitbulls away from a neighbors home. Needless to say, James came home with some serious facial injuries. Kerri was there to help me examine him and see that he was cleaned up. I feel that his injuries were completely MY responsibility as he was not on his own land. This is an issue that all of us who are fenced for cattle, sheep, goats, or horses, must deal with. These fences wont hold a dog. In light of this and James recent issues, he has an appointment to be neutered on December 18th. Cookie will also be spayed at the same time. Our new pup, Blue, will be living in the pen with the goats while her parents cover the perimeter and land. We are hoping to get a couple of solar fence chargers so we can run a hot wire around our entire 10 acres. I live in fear of this happening to our dogs too...
