I am inspired today. Thank you to Clayton Veilleux and Steve Vandall. Two of my friends came with me to a Spartan Race in Calgary. Clayton I knew would love the race. He finished the race in the 20% of 3000 people. My friend Steve was the true inspiration. We started the run waiting at the starting line. We were surrounded by 300 runners, cross trainers, and gym fans willing to challenge them selves. The announcer on the speaker pumping us up, by speaking of history. We represent the 300 that stood strong against the tyranny of a nation. When he said who am I? the 300 yelled at the top of their lungs, We are Sparta. The horn went and Clayton was off. Steve and I slowly made our way forward. Neither of them new what to expect from the Spartan race. 5 km of up and down hills, crawling under barbwire fence, jumping over fire, climbing ropes, climbing walls, under walls, throwing spears and more. Both of my friends twisted their ankles on their run. Steve ran through that pain. We were not the fastest, we werent the last. We finished. it was a challenge. At one point as we climbed another hill, I continue to try to motivate steve, he tells me, quite I am concentrating. When we crossed the finish line, the struggle was worth it. We got our medals. We were Spartans! many try, many finish by not everyone. One lady during our heat didnt finish. she sprained her ankle and could not go on. That was just one, during the two day event, many more were stopped by the challenge. We all have a Spartan in us. We all have inner strength to finish. We just need to believe.
