I am now dreaming of an alternate reality, in which Alexander Payne is given the Batman film franchise to play with, and shoots a black and white road movie, DARK KNIGHT RETIRING, in which an elderly Batman (Bruce Dern) and a middle-aged Robin the Boy Wonder (Matthew Broderick) travel across the American Midwest in a run-down Batmobile held together with gaffer tape (or duct tape as the Americans term it), for one last confrontation with the Joker (Jack Nicholson, totally re-imagining his own earlier interpretation of the role). En route, they encounter an aging Edward Nigma, the Riddler (Bill Murray), now reduced to hosting a regional cable TV quiz show, a gone-to-seed Selina Kyle, formerly Catwoman (Kathy Bates), now running a brothel ranch in the Nevada desert, and Bane (Stacy Keach), now running a private security company. A bittersweet tale of fathers and sons, heroes and villains, unfulfilled dreams, and long-delayed bloody vengeance. I would actually pay cash money to see this.
