I am so tired of hearing the moaning and complaining about Christmas before Thanksgiving. Here is my reality: As a small business retailer, I wait until after Halloween to have my Holiday Open House. It is inclusive of Thanksgiving, however does feature Christmas. (This is how I make my living so that I am not on your nickel for government assistance.) For as many people who profess to hate it, there are a LOT of shoppers out there who wait (not so patiently) for this annual event. If I wait until after Thanksgiving, my sales window is narrowed down to less than four weeks. Since I am a seasonal business (we close December 23) this means that there is a HIGHER probability that I will not sell through my investment of merchandise, meaning that getting through winter will be challenging. Also, once Thanksgiving hits, many shoppers (who profess otherwise) shop internet and big box stores. My little store is forgotten until they need a Christmas tree. So while I understand your frustration, as a business person, I see the other end of it. Also, you might be interested to know - I live Christmas October-February and then again in August. I have to think about buying seasons ahead - so I can be sure to get my merchandise. How do you think I feel?
