I am somewhat melancholic today as I remember those lost on 9/11. I spent some time working in the WTC after the 1st attack. I went down there another weekend with my wife to accept a sales award. My Uncle Joe was a senior engineer on the project. Often as children my father would beam with pride as we drove by the construction site, exclaiming, "Your Uncle Joe is building that". What hurts most is that it seems that many have forgotten the day. Gone are many of the ceremonies and moments of silence. I was working as a stockbroker in Boston on the day that the towers fell. We were in a sales meeting when Jill Reen Compagnone and Amie Moreau came in to break the news. The day was surreal after that. The world had changed. Our CEO came over the squawk box, his voice trembling, announcing that they were evacuating One Liberty Plaza. The stories I heard of the scene from my coworkers were horrific. My father was NYFD, so it really hit home. I grew up with my mother watching the television when there was a fire in the city. It was never voiced, but the fear was palpable. Many families realized that fear on 9/11. My life changed after that day. I headed in a new direction. I will always honor and remember those lost on 9/11, and those lost in service to our nation.
