I am thankful for being nominated for the 2014 Notable 360 award in the Sports and Fitness category. You can view my profile and vote for me at... notable.ca/awards/profile/marlon-teekah/ This nomination is very special to me because its for young professionals who have had success in their career and community. Success is a vast term and often differs among individuals, but I believe success is about living ones values. I started Marlon Teekah Personal Training in 2007 and 3 years later in 2010, I considered myself successful. I had my own business in an area that I am passionate about and utilized my natural strengths, I was able to help my clients get fit and lose weight and I was getting paid well. During this time I took 6 months off work to travel by myself, which gave me the time to think about what’s really important to me (my values) and led me to redefine success and create new goals in my life. I still believe success is about the things I mentioned earlier, but I believe there are two other crucial elements. I believe that success is about doing what I believe in. This has led me to rebrand my business with the concept of the 1:23 ratio, where 1 hour of exercise helps people to improve the other 23 of life. Exerciae is about way more than just losing weight and looking good, although this is definitely part of it. I also believe that success is about using my passions and strengths to help out more than just myself and my clients, but my city and especially the people and places that have given me so much. This has led me to create my organization sweat and stick TOgether in 2011, where my team and I build healthier individuals and communities in Toronto through physical activity. Some of our projects include: Stand Up 4 Fitness- A program that offers free fitness classes to families in Rexdale (where I grew up as a kid), which has one of the highest levels of health issues in Toronto. Game On- A healthy living program for boys at Cummer Valley Middle School (my former middle school), where myself and another mentor play sports, eat healthy snacks and talk about topics affecting young men Guest speaking- I speak to students at U of T (my alma mater) about school and career decisions. Play Day- A quarterly event where I get together with friends, family and clients to participate in physical activities such as trampoline dodgeball, outdoor soccer, beach volleyball, skating and bowling Speaking of which, none of my success would be possible if it wasn’t for all of my friends, family and clients who have provided me with continual support and inspiration along my journey. And reading this long message! Im done! Love always, Marlon
