I choose my close friends carefully. I observe their characters before I let them in. Those who spend idle time talking about others, will talk about you too. I dont let these sort of people into my inner circle. Those who go around spewing fitnah about others to me, I avoid at all costs. If they can spew fitnah on others to you in the name of warning you, they can do the same about you to others. Sometimes its a habit. If someone is not there to defend him or herself, take everything said with a grain of salt. You need to hear both sides of the story before making judgment. Id rather spend a whole afternoon listening to a self-absorbed and self-centered person than one hour with a person who talks bad about others. I am happy with my careful selection of friends right now. I have met some wonderful people whom, despite extreme aggravation from others, still refuse to say anything bad about the people that antagonize them. To me, thats strength of character. I respect people like that. A friend of me literally bit his tongue and zipped his mouth when I prodded him as to why he disliked one person so much. His expression was full of loath but he refused to say why. He wasnt going to bring himself to that persons level. Hes still my close friend until now. I know this person is someone I want in my circle forever. His ethics are solid. Choose those whom you let into your inner circle wisely.
