I consider my being born in the USA an amazing gift from God (of course His gift of His Son for our salvation is even more important) that I hope to never take for granted. This song came to my mind the other evening and Matt and I were discussing what it means to us. Having poignant memories of the Iranian hostages release and hearing this song (a mere 3-4 hours after Reagans inauguration) this song represents freedom, power, and anything but cowardice. Matt wasnt sure about my history but I know that at my young age I probably hadnt seen The Jazz Singer, so I am fairly sure my connection of these two events (though not deliberate, I am sure) could have actually happened. I showed the video to Evan and Andrew and told them that I cant listen to it without tearing up. There was a time people loved this country. Those who want to come here still do. But somehow a lot of mericans are too busy complaining about the 1% and the bad cops and how theyve been done wrong. I want to say to those people ... you may have valid points, in fact, I am quite sure you do, but maybe if you would approach things without whining and being negative and using name-calling .... oh and violence (!), maybe this place that you hate so much will stop looking so terrible. Its time to start seeing the beauty in people, in life, to add value and stop taking away with your cynicism. God has truly blessed this country, and I am sorry if that isnt enough for you to be grateful. I pray for patriotism that is lost. Maybe you need to listen to this ....
