I did the Blog Entry Two - Independent Research for Press Releases, you can thank me later :) PS - If you are doing Media in any other classes or Colleges, feel free to use and edit! Independent Research - Press Releases I have learnt that press releases usually have a formatted structure so that it can: ⦁ Grip the reader instantly through their use of emotive language. ⦁ Describe in detail the synopsis of a show whilst still maintaining the engagement of its audience. ⦁ Inform the audience of who will be cast and their previous roles. The press releases for television shows usually start with a small description of what the programmer provokes in the viewer and who it is directed by. They do this so that it excites the reader and makes them willing to engage more, and that means they will find out about the particular show and persuades them to watch it. In addition, they include the director because they may be popular for other productions, meaning once again the viewer can relate to them and possibly may watch this because of previous successes. Secondly, they briefly without giving anything away describe the plot line of the story, which helps the audience identify the genre of the programme and relate to characters before they have even seen the show. This helps them settle into the story even without ever watching it, again this persuades them to watch it more because they can understand the way the character works without going through too much effort. Moreover, they can have a rough outline of how the show will excite them, whether it be through fast paced action scenes or slow thorough thinking. This once more is important because it will instantly show the audience what type of show it is and makes them think about if it will be worth watching. This is why so little detail about the actual story is included, the restricted information acts as a cliffhanger making them want to watch out to find more. Finally, the press releases will also make use of promoting the actors and using them as a basis to land the shows audience. This is very key information because one of the most critical points of a show is to have actors that are confident in taking on the roles they will be given. The audience reading the press release will want to know who will be playing what character, so they can give their own opinion on the matter. This will make them want to see them in the show even if it is negative or positive, because they will either want to prove their point or see a new talent perform. On the other hand, they may have seen actors in previous roles and enjoyed them in the past, which acts as a persuasive technique to engage the audience and make them want to see these performers in a new role. In addition, they may have been credited for awards in the past that can also be mentioned, and so this will make the audience understand the talent the actor has which will make the show an enjoyable experience.
