I dont like the word to exist. I have big philosophical problems with the concept. It leads people to say things like Does infinity exist? or Do imaginary numbers exist? which shows a total misunderstanding of how mathematics works and what mathematics *is*. And even in the physical world, I think the concept of things existing or not existing could be replaced with much better models. Physics has improved our understanding of the universe a billion times over than in medieval days. , this is what I think about a lot of philosophy, at least the sort of philosophy that people study at uni. Every time I actually hear anything about it, I think wow, that is totally made redundant by / should be explained much better by physics or mathematics or linguistics. Dont they ever use rigour? Dont they ever throw out wrong and outdated ideas? Bah.
