I dont usually think of George Orwell as an optimist, but as this - TopicsExpress

I dont usually think of George Orwell as an optimist, but as this winter continues to resemble his famous boot stamping on a human face--forever, Im going to choose to take heart from the unscientific hopefulness in the last line of this letter from March 20, 1947: “I have now literally no fuel whatever. However it isn’t quite so stinkingly cold, in fact we’ve distinctly seen the sun on more than one occasion, and I heard some birds trying to sing the other morning. . . . I think after this stinking winter the weather ought to be better this year.”
