I embarrassed myself when I early voted today and I think I scared - TopicsExpress

I embarrassed myself when I early voted today and I think I scared some poll workers. I was prepared to have to present my photo ID for the first time in nearly a half century of suffrage, but I was completely unprepared for the emotions that rose up at the thought of all the people who died to expand the franchise, and the people wholl be disenfranchised by the current pandemic of voter suppression. I was so overwhelmed with fury that I feared the poll workers would call the cops or the mental health deputies. Though my voter registration card says Lisa, and I sign my drivers license Lisa, my license actually says Mary Elizabeth. When the poor poll worker asked, as she is now legally required to do, if Id like to change my voter registration card, Im afraid she got an earful about the things Id like to change, none of which included my name. I had to step outside, count to 10, blow my nose, go back in and apologize. Then I made sure to vote to increase affordable housing. With luck, those housed will get IDs and join the new suffrage movement to help reverse this insufferable wave of anti-democracy. Greg Abbott, this is personal. You have pissed off a passel of suffragettes. Serendipitously, tonight Rachel Maddow covered my concerns with her usual comprehensive calm.
