I feel damn guilty to be here, updating my status in front of my laptop. So i was thinking what can i do for all my peers, are now at 3:00AM protesting in front of the Government Headquarter. I am now here calling out all my friends in Facebook, especially for those who are now studying aboard, or even you are foreigner, please do waste a couple minutes to read what is happening in Hong Kong. - Background : (abstract from BBC news) We have been hoped for a true democracy in Hong Kong, that allows us vote for our chief executive. As Hong Kong is part of Peoples Republic of China (PRC) geographically, also politically after 1997 , the sovereignty over Hong Kong had been transferred from the UK to Mainland China under the principle of one country , two system where the city would enjoy a high degree of autonomy, except in foreign and defence affairs for 50 years. As a result, Hong Kong has its own legal system, and rights including freedom of assembly and free speech are protected. For our leader, the chief executive, is currently elected by a 1,200-member election committee. A majority of the representatives are viewed as pro-Beijing. In August 2014, Beijing decided that candidates for the 2017 chief executive election would first have to be approved by a nominating committee. We basically dont like and agree to the decision, it doesnt mean to a true democracy. Therefore, Student group launch a week-long boycott of classes in protest in 22th Sept, aimed to put pressure on the Hong Kong and Chinese government to allow the public to have say in the 2017s election, ask to meet CY Leung on the citys political reform. But CY refused , so the federation had announced its intention to step up a campaign of civil disobedience. Protesters storms into the Civic Square forecourt outside the government Headquarter on the 26th Sept, seizing back the civic square since its belongs to the people. - Our peers, are risking themselves future, but trying to fight for Hong Kongs future. I may ask all of you to give your support to them, no matter in anyway. You may stay tuned to the latest news, share to the others, and when you are able to do something for your home town, never choose to be silent one, cause democracy and freedom will never come by itself but to fight. You might see a lots of us have changed their profile picture into their younger age, wearing uniform. It is for supporting the students on strike and the full campaign but not just for fun. If you do feel yourself helpless, you may show your awareness by doing this. THE HISTORY WILL MARK. #hkclassboycott *For more Details : - BBC,Hong Kongs democracy debate : bbc/news/world-asia-china-27921954 -BBC, HK students escalate pro-democracy protest : bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-29321308 - SCMP,chaotic scenes students break civic square : scmp/news/hong-kong/article/1601262/chaotic-scenes-students-break-civic-square-class-boycott-ends
