I got up early this morning and grabbed last nights pants to put on to take my sweet dog for his early morning, much-awaited walk. As I reached for the pants, the pennies that the homeless had been collecting for Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital, fell on the wood floor and the sounds were over exaggerated in the small room. I listened to the coins rolling and then turned on the light. Four of the pennies were near the area where they were dropped, but one lone coin rolled away. I had listened as it rolled away from the others. I walked to the area I thought the coin should be and it was not there. After a bit of a search I found it under a shoe by the wall. I stood there and contemplated how much like our relationship with God this penny is. IF we listen, really listen, to Him, we can follow His path for our life. The sounds, the signs, the messengers He had strategically planted in our paths to do His work, give us a Word...IF we slow down and pay attention and then follow His word, the sound of the penny.Too many times we look for His Word to us right in front of our noses. Like the four pennies in front of us we stand immobilized and wonder what to do next. Listen. Did you hear that other penny roll away? His next step for you is just a sound away, just a line in His Book that stands out with your next move. As I moved the shoe to pick up the coin I thought of the times that I stood still and did not make the move to do what did not make sense to ME. I shook my fist upward and asked Him why He was not leading me? He shook His head. He knew that my next move was merely a penny roll away. I just needed to walk over and move the shoe...
