I had trouble pulling myself away from the television last night. Watching the anger of the crowd pour out in the street, contrasted with the cautiously insistent military precision of law enforcement, made for a sadly compelling tableau. Its clear to me that we have a problem with the perception of equal justice under the law in predominantly minority communities. Some people are convinced that no matter what happens, they will never achieve parity. The question is whether or not this will continue, night after night, in minority communities. And if it does, maybe someone will finally offer me a logical explanation to the following legitimate question: What aspect of the search for social justice is furthered by breaking into a liquor store and stealing a bottle, or burning another minority-owned auto parts business to the ground after stealing all of the valuable contents?
