I have been left doctorless, without notification by letter, - TopicsExpress

I have been left doctorless, without notification by letter, telephone or email for the sake of two miles.....I found out by going to the surgery for an appointment I had booked with the asthma nurse two weeks ago (no other appts before that time) only to find that it had been removed as had I!! i have written a letter to complain and in the letter you will see the process i have had to go through, please read: Dear Sir/madam I would like to complain about the treatment I have had at the hands of Park view medical practice. When I moved house I had a letter from the NHS register to say that I would have to find another GP within 30 days. I rang the NHS registry to say that I did not want to move from my current practice because they were up to date with various on-going aspects to my health and moving would mean that I would have to go through the whole process of a new practice getting my notes which takes up to six months, sorting out my asthma treatment and understanding what is happening with my wrists, leg and back. I will indicate my reason for my complaint in the bullet points below. 1 I received a letter from the NHS register 2 I ran the register to state that I did not want to change and was told I did not need to as long as I wrote to the practice manager Lawrence Bernthall explaining why I felt I want to stay with the practice which I did and this was sent on the (9/10/14) 3 I heard nothing more from the practice or Laurence Bernthall and continued to make appointments and obtain repeat prescriptions, and in fact made an appointment with the practice in Vernon Street for the 13/11/14 to see the asthma nurse. 4 when I arrived at the practice for my appointment on the 13/11/14 I was told there was no appointment, in fact I was told I did not exist on their database! When I asked why the receptionist informed me that as I had moved out of the area they would automatically delete me. I had had no notification of the appointment being cancelled nor having been left basically “doctorless” 5 when I rang Lawrence Bernthall and insisted he tell me why he explained that the practice decided at a meeting to remove the dead wood, e.g., those patients living outside their “area” even though I live five minutes away by car!! What I would like to know, is, is it normal practice to be, what can only be described as “dumped” and left “doctorless” without notification either by telephone, letter or email, to the point that the only way I find out is to attend an appointment that no longer exists. Is it normal practice for a GP surgery to make decisions on this kind based on what can only be described as territorial madness!! I don’t know Derby very well, but now I find I have to blindly find another GP surgery, even though I know that it will be for a few months as I am intending to leave the area, surely it would have been better to remain where I was for this period, especially as the distance my Vernon street was only two miles. Each time I have moved, having lived in three towns and two areas of Derby, GP practices have taken time to get on board, each practice feels the need to “play” with my asthma meds, usually with myself ending up in hospital, nobody yet has even bothered to get on board with what has happened to my back (broke it in Italy was in a wheelchair for 4 years and have been told its crumbling) because there has simply not been time, Vernon street took six months to get all the notes from both of the hospitals involved in the operations I have had on my wrist both write (once) and left (twice), as for the issues with my left leg, I believe the GP was aware of the decision being made by the practice as he told me to come back in a month’s time to see if it got any worse, which it has, not much chance of that now!! I feel that based on the above, my treatment has been at best shoddy at worse nothing near to being best practice, therefore I wish to make a formal complaint, whilst you are dealing with it I will in the meantime try to find another GP and go through the lengthy process of trying to get my notes from the various doctors, hospitals etc. Regards Dorinda Mosedale
