I have been reading this Western critique of disability rights and the history of disability in the USSR. It seems to be trying hard to be objective, although there are some factual accuracy questions I want to investigate (it cites Solzhenitsyn talking about labour camps for disabled). Just like how Marx said the social standing of women is a measure of social progress, how the USSR responded to the needs of the disabled appears to me to be a gauge of how well or not they managed to live up to Marxs from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs (I have chronic illnesses and a spinal injury, so it is an important issue to me). I need more info, so can anybody help with suggestions for further reading please? dsq-sds.org/article/view/936/1111
