I have come to believe that leaders who rule by the book such as manuals and protocols, to a point that they just become adding machines or bureaucratic automatons, are lacking either in capacity or courage or both. They take refuge in the written text, and in the power of tradition and unwritten policies that they become too mechanical to be called leaders. Indeed, they dont lead. They just execute. And that is what they become. Executioners. Not leaders.
