I have heard about one native tribe in Africa that has a strange habbit. If once upon a time happen that somebody in that tribe do something violent,than they will take him into the middle of village and all people from tribe will get there together. And they talk to him,hug him,try to give him a sign that they still accept him and that they know that he is ill,and he need to be cured.That this is not acting of an healthy person...They dont try to isolate him because that man already feels to be isolated from the society,if he commits a crime against that society.So how it will help him to isolate him physically???This tribe knows much more about crime and its roots,than most of the lawmakers and judges in the whole world...How can any judge to judge your act and give a punishment to you?And what about the victim?Will it help the victim?Everytime when judge judges you it is his opinion,or the opinion of the people in jury,if the jury judges you...How can you put somebody to jail?How can you imprison somebody physically?What right you have to do that? That man is ill,he needs help and not just to be somewhere behind closed doors.But this is the way that this society deals with people who doesnt fit in...Mad people,criminals...They simply isolate them. Not to be seing by others,not to spread infection of madness or criminality,and to prevent them to do harm to others...But what about the prisoners?The reality is somewhere else. I have been travelling around many prisons around this country,because one of my friends was a in governent of India so he managed everything for me,I have been in many prisons and talking to many prisoners...Among the prisoners the prison is called : University of crime...They are not there to fullfill any punishment but to learn,to educate,to learn new skills,to find out new people to be in connection with.Into the prison comes a young pickpocket and after few years a great bank robber is coming out. The society is closed to all criminals even to criminals who have been punished for their crime and now they are out. And old friends from prison will always help,they are in the same situation,they are refused by the society as well as this one man.And they want to live too,they want to make their new projects too...Prison is not a punishment and it is not something that helps to decrease crime,that iw why there are more and more prisons build and criminality is raising and there are more and more prisoners...Because nobody deals with the cause.Cause is that these people feel to be refused by the society,they have mental illness,they need to be cured by meditativness by love,and then by giving back to society.Not just to put them into prison for the rest of their lifes.That solves nothing. The crime has its roots and the society creates the situation for it to grow by poverty,by situation that country and so on- Osho
