I have thought of Washington DC often in the last week. I witnessed superlative aspects of Urban Planning. My hotel had Green Roofs, they have a high level of respect for the pedestrian. Bike lanes were green and easy to identify and in heavy traffic areas we secluded by a short berm. The sidewalks were bustling with people because restaurants and retail drove the foot travel before, during AND after work. I found amazement in an ART PARK! A park filled with beautiful and interesting sculptures. My favorite was a giant metal tree! I was to late to see my own poems at the Library of Congress. However, I marveled at the fountain and statues outside. The Capitol is undergoing work. But it was cool to look at it anyway. Mass transportation is ever present and met several people who didnt drive their vehicles Monday through Friday. All walks of life used the Metro. I never smelled urine, of witnessed abhorrent behavior. People spoke on the sidewalk and always provided greetings and salutations. The strangers werent strangers at all. I dined at spot called Busboys and Poets. The vibe there was electrifying. I even stopped by Bens Bowl! There is development at every other corner. Huh! Maybe DC needs an Urban Planner....... We shall see!
