I have to first apologise to my cousin Trev and my oul mate Ian, but my gut reaction is that I wouldnt trust Stormont with my car tax let alone Corporation tax. Our budget is constantly used as a political football and the tens of millions wasted on schemes which never came off due to points scoring by the people on the hill is an absolute disgrace. Millions wasted on the Maze Stadium scheme, millions already spent on Desertcreate police and fire service college which as its west of the Bann will never be built and £16 million wasted on the failed ESA ( Education Skills authority). At the same time some of our esteemed representatives have been creaming off millions via cultural societies which dont exist, expenses which they cant justify and pay rises which the rest of NI can only dream of. I have worked my guts out as a civil servant for nearly 30 years and I can hand on heart say that we did a hell of a better job administering the NI block grant than our own elected representatives. We are on the cusp of bankruptcy with no front line police to stop the criminal gangs acting with impunity, the civil service has been decimated until our schools, hospitals, criminal justice system and agriculture are starting to implode and the banks who started the economic recession are back paying massive bonuses to their top bosses while the ordinary bank employees are losing their jobs as small community based banks are closed. Dont get me wrong there are some good honest politicans but they are sidelined and few and far between and now we have the supercouncils which will leave unionists west of the Bann as second class citizens while SF strip our last vestige of Britishness, push our rates through the roof and maladminister their new powers just like their mates on the Hill !!! Believe me when I tell you all this wee country has some very hard times ahead and we wonder why our kids want to leave -- Rant over but what this space
