I hope this is obvious to everyone, but I like it when software philosophy marries up with real world philosophy. For anybody into being PC, racial equality, gender equality etc. in computer science there are two related concepts that define a relationship between two things. One is called equality, and it makes a claim about the equivalency. One is called sameness, and it makes a claim about identity. Imagine two cars come of the production line. Are they equal? Yes. Are they the same? No. There is a reason the term equality is used when referring to these movements. While sameness is fairly empirical, equality is measured by circumstance; equality is about ignoring the differences that dont matter given that circumstance. Sometimes these differences matter, and sometimes they dont. I guess, what Im saying is, strive not to confuse the two concepts and youve met a big part of your requirement for being an awesome person. (and a good coder)
