I just got back from a border run to Nicaragua & back. Bring a photocopy of the 1st (photo) page of your passport to avoid a glitch - they ask for it when departing Nicaragua. Its now $7 departure tax & $1 municipality tax at the 1st window, then $12 entering Nicaragua, another $1 muni tax exiting + $2 departure tax leaving Nicaragua. Thats $23 & they accept only U.S. dollars at each location. When you go, youll expedite things for yourself if you take a ten dollar bill, a five dollar bill & 8 one dollar bills. And dont forget the copy of your passport! Thanks Samantha de Jager for this last tip - it helped big-time! This is the 2nd time I used Tamarindo Transfer & Tours and they did an incredible job both times: there & back in just 6 1/2 hrs.
