I just signed the opposition petition about the KEP Power Raise... Here are my comments I made with it... First of all, the request to purchase half interest in the Mitchell Power Plant owned by Ohio Power should have been denied. Second the KEP should be made to update the Louisa facility to burn East KY Coal instead of both ..asking for an increase and hurting our KY miners by shutting down the Louisa Plant. If they want to create and sell Electricity in KY...They should have been made to retrofit the Louisa plant to comply with standards that have been set. So, the request to purchase the Moundsville plant should have been denied. Thirdly, the Kentucky Electric Power Company should be made to properly maintain their transmission lines and remove overgrown vegetation from the lines. This company continues to ask for increases..from the folks who have suffered the most from the economic downturn... and receive the least service to boot. And the poor, and folks on fixed incomes will have to choose between turning the juice off and putting food on their tables. This petition for a rate raise for KEP is a tragedy for our citizens in East KY. I hereby submit my opposition to the rate increase.
