I keep reflecting on the video that I saw of the autistic boy having feces and urine and spit dumped on him when he thought he was doing something good for the ALS challenge. When I hear stories like this, I often wonder what kind of people raise children that treat peers that way. Maybe were a little more sensitive because weve had this affect us personally, but we raise our children to believe that everyone is important. Every child youre in school with or that you cross paths with is someones brother, sister, son, daughter or grandchild. People should be treated how you want to be treated or how you would want your family member to be treated. Ive had my heart broken for my child on several occasions because of actions of other children that just were out to be cruel and I could never figure out why they did what they did. Why they couldnt just be kind? These kids are people too. They have to go home and tell their parents what happened to them and ask the question why do they treat me the way they do? Whats wrong with me? We need stricter punishment in schools for bullying and assault should be called assault and punishments should fit the crime.
