I know that to most of the world fruitcake is a joke, but my mothers fruitcake and her mincemeat squares are what the week between Christmas and New Years Day is all about. That and egg nog. My sister, bless her thoroughly, still makes both those holiday treats. And although Im fully aware of the fact that I may as well dump a sugarbowl down my throat, I dont care. Fruitcake and mincemeat squares are two of the best things about the holidays.
