I learned last night of the passing of Norm Parish. Norm was a great man and a good friend. When my partner George Thomasson and I opened our first art gallery (Eklektikos Gallery of Art) in Washington, DC (Georgetown) close to 20 years ago, Norm was already well established as an arts professional. Norm was a warm, welcoming and wise man with a deep and mellow voice seasoned with years of knowledge and experience accompanied with a vivacious sparkle in his eye. His gallery was but a couple of spaces away from ours and Parish Gallery was an integral component of the galleries of Canal Square. During our six years in Georgetown before moving our gallery to 7th street, he was always helpful and willing to share his vast knowledge about the business of contemporary art with us. He was a top-notch arts dealer and curator, an true expert in contemporary African-American art, a trailblazer, and mover and a shaker. His contribution to the contemporary DC art scene is immeasurable and he will be truly missed. Rest in peace Norm.
