I love it when I find an amazing new piece of music that isnt already overplayed and overheard. Its a bit like the old days of finding that one vinyl youd been searching for. Thats what it was like for me finding the original Sleeping Land track by The Rustle of the Stars, so it was an absolute pleasure having an opportunity to remix the track. I wanted to keep it honest to the feeling of the original, just rearranging and reharmonising some of the strings for the long intro, before going into the main strings section along with some binaural samples of clonking the inside of an old broken piano, used to make the early percussive elements, before bringing in some more standard drums to punch through the increasing layers of distortion. Once I had the basic structure it was just a matter of trying to get the difficult balance between maximum intensity and clarity, so that it could be as distorted as possible, without hurting too much! I think I did mess up my right ear on this one a bit though, you have to be careful with making these sorts of tracks to try and work as quietly as possible and EQ out the harshest frequencies at the earliest possible stages of the process. Then there was loads of randomisation and editing of layers and layers within layers, to get the details and glitch elements, and the fine tuning of the mix, before it was as finished as it needed to be (its never totally finished). It is available for free download as part 3 of 6 of the Quotient Series, which is a set of 6 original tracks, remixes and mixes, that will be available for free and only available from the new website below here: bit.ly/MaxSC https://soundcloud/max-cooper/the-rustle-of-the-stars-sleeping-land-max-cooper-rmx-quotient-36
